Recipe Apps: "There's an app for that!"

Do you use any apps in the kitchen?  This is coming from someone with oodles of cookbooks... I love my recipe apps!  I use them on both the iPad and my iPhone, depending on the situation.

My favorite on the iPad, probably Big Oven.

You can search their 250,000 recipes by:

  • ingredient
  • within collections (Father's Day, Off The Grill, Brunch, etc)
  • via their menus
  • by using up leftovers
  • ones people are raving about
  • and hey, just random!
You can create a free account to access additional options, including "My Kitchen" with a menu planner, grocery list, recipes and menus you've tried and the opportunity to add recipes.  I've had it for awhile and I just love looking through it for ideas.  REALLY great images and I'm all about the visual.  I opened an account today to see what that was all about and the free one seems to be a good place to start.  There are two additional paid accounts, one for $19.99 a year, the other $2.49 a month.

I also like the All Recipes Video Cookbook (if you enjoy high quality video on a large variety of subjects) and All Recipes - Your Kitchen Inspiration.   Both have free versions, which are what I have.

Like Big Oven, Your Kitchen Inspiration allow you to search by the course, ingredient and then also by method (stir fry, baked, stewed, etc) as well as time (20 min or less, 45 min or less, over an hour) which are two nice options as well.

I enjoy the video cookbook.  When I am doing something else, like cutting fabric, I can put on videos to listen/watch and learn.  Like the multi-tasking it allows.  The videos are good quality and fun to watch.  They are all fairly short, recipe only, not like a full cooking show.

Do you use any cooking apps?  Which ones?  What do you think?

Have fun in the kitchen!

  2. I also have oodles of cookery books - you can never have too many in my opinion! I like the idea of these apps though. I only received my new ipad last week, so these are perfect to add to it. Great inspiration.
